Introduction of Luo Han Guo Extract
Luo Han Guo (Siraitia grosvenorii, or Momordica grosvenorii), that is mangosteen of cucurbitaceous family, the ripe fruit of a kind of perennial grass liana. There have been thousands of years that Chinese have known to soak the Luo Han Guo in water as a drink. Traditional of Chinese medicine as well applies it to cure disease, such as high blood pressure, pulmonary tuberculosis, asthma, gastritis, whooping cough, acute & chronic tracheitis and acute & chronic tonsillitis, etc. It is proved by recent researches that mogrosides is the main effective medical components. Main Components of Mogrosides
Mogrosides, the mixture of cucurbitane glycoside, which have the common mogrol, are comprised with 11 kinds of cucurbitane glycoside which are the Mogroside III, Mogrosied IV, Mogroside V, Mogroside IIE , Mogorside IIIE , Mogrosied A, Neomogroside, Siamenside I, and
11- Oxo- Mogroside V.
Mogroside IV is a component with no sweet taste. Mogroside A, Mogroside II, and Neomogroside are bitterness substance. In all cucurbitane glycoside, Siamenside I is the sweetest component, whose sweetness is approximate 563 times of sucrose. But its content in the fruit is very low. The content and sweet degree both high in all the mogrosides is Mogroside V, the sweet degree of which is approximate 256-344 times.
Mogrosides' Biological Activity:
Mogrosides, the main active component of Luo Han Guo, whose biological activity and functional mechanism can be referred as as followings:
1. In 1999, Chinese researchers Wang Ting and his group tested on the biological activity of
mogrosides by mice. Then they discovered that mogrosides is help to expectorant, antitussive
and calming asthma as well.
2. In 2002, Japanese scientists Takao Konoshima and Midori Takasaki, and in 2003 Midori
Takasaki, they together discovered that Mogroside V and 11-Oxo-Mogroside V are both a strong
kind of chemical interdiction reagent through the in vivo and in vitro study . They stop and put a
curb on the activation of EBV-EA and the progress of the second phrase of cancerization of
mice's skin remarkable.
3. In 2004, according to Maria Alejandra HOSSEN and his partners' researches, they discovered

5. In 2005, according to the researches of Yasushia Suzuki and his partners, extraction of Luo Han
Guo could restrain the rise of the density of blood-sugar of mice which had eaten maltose
effectively, while extraction of Luo Han Guo couldn't restrain that rise on the mice which had

Examples in Practical Application of Mogrosides in Food Industry:
Mogrosides can partially or wholly replace sucrose in food industry. For example, add 0.012% mogrosides into dextrin can make soft sweets without adding sugar. When substitute mogrosides for sucrose in biscuits production, the texture and taste will be very nice. When making pickles, to add 0.005% Mogrosides to the solution can reduce costs of salt, while the pickles tastes more crisp and fresh.
Mogrosides (Luo Han Guo Extract) can be blended with some other herbal extract (Green Tea, Kuduz, etc) to make into instant tea bag, beside works as sweet properties, Luo Han Guo extract will also give benefit like thirst-quenching, diuretie, refreshing, lowering blood-pressure, promoting gastrointestinal function etc... 1. What is Magou-VTM?

2. Magou-VTM is standardized by 40% Mogroside V, while some other brands Luo Han Guo extract are labeled as 80% Mogrosides, what's the difference between them?
80% Mogrosides will contain all components which have same mogrol, among them there are some non-sweet components like Mogroside IV, and also bitter components like Mogroside A, Mogrosides II and Neomogroside. Since the main purpose of Magou-VTM will be used as sweetener, then the only meaningful way to control the quality will be to calculate the potency of the real sweet component. Mogroside V is one of the most sweet constitute in Luo Han Guo (another most sweet constitute is Siamenside I, but it is very few in Luo Han Guo, and not realistic in economic to extract it as a sweetener), therefore we standardize our product by this component. We have ever collect from market several brands Luo Han Guo extract which all claimed as 80% mogrosides, but their sweet potency is quite different, and the contents of Mogroside V in them differed from 17.6% to 34.4%. Therefore we prefer to control our product only by Mogroside V through a HPLC method, which is more accuracy to represent the true quality of the product.

3. Why Magou-VTM should be the priority choice when food/drink manufacturers consider using Luo Han Guo product as sweet agent?
As sweetener, the ideal taste would be like refined white sugar, means no other miscellaneous flavors except sweetness. Most people may not expect his Latte becomes a cup of licorice liquid or something alike right after he added sweetener. So, it is very important to minimize the characteristic taste of Luo Han Guo, and only remain its sweetness. In this point, we dare to say Magou-VTM is the most successful product with its pure, neutral and long-lasting sweetness. Though it doesn't completely eliminate each flavor trace of Luo Han Guo, it already consumedly exceeds other brands. 4. Why we set Mogroside V 40% as the quality standard, not 60% or 20%?
It is proved by our researches that an extract contains 20% Magroside V will keep too many characteristic Luo Han Guo taste, therefore this grade should not be suitable as sweetener. On another hand, when the content of Mogroside V has been improved to 60% in the extract, its cost will be double of 40% grade when receive same sweet degree, but its taste in purity side seems has not been conspicuously meliorated. Consequently, we standardized our Magou-VTM by 40% Mogroside V to enable our customers will use the best products at relative lowest costs.
